Dreams & Nightmares

Dimitri de Perrot

May 4th to 20th

Opens May 4th, 20:30h

MuVIM

With Dreams & Nightmares Dimitri de Perrot presents the idea of “wandering” as a metaphor for an inner and outer journey into the unknown – through listening. The core of the work is a dark room through which the visitor can orient himself only by means of sound and sporadic light plays.

For this work de Perrot asked photographer Jean Revillard to integrate his pictures in the exhibition. Jean has been awarded the World Press Award twice and is known for his impressive pictures of people on the run. His work, interspersed with the sound and lighting installation amaze the viewer in the dark.

As a stage and sound installation Dreams & Nightmares articulates what words can hardly deliver. It is a physical experience in the room, which expresses the unseen, the invisible and the incomprehensible, when things beyond acceptance have to be told.

Dimitri de Perrot is an internationally awarded Swiss artist, musician, director and since 2014 a regular guest lecturer at the Zurich University of the Arts. At the core of his research-based work is narration through and with sound and the exploration of new, trans-disciplinary forms of production between theatre, music and installation. He has worked with dancers and circus artists for many years, staged interdisciplinary theatre and music projects, and composed for film and theatre.

He is also the co-founder of the Swiss directing duo ZIMMERMANN & DE PERROT witch productions have been performed in such renowned venues as BAM (Brooklyn Academy of Music – New York), Festival d‘Avignon, Barbican London, Tokyo Metropolitan Theatre, Théâtre de la Ville – Paris and Sydney Opera House, among others.

In his recent works he is expanding the focus on areas such as fine art and public space. With MYOUSIC (2016) he created a scenic sculpture for theatre spaces without actors on stage, using sound, space, light and visuals as equivalent narrative structures. In 2017, de Perrot presented the installation STRANDGUT UND BLUMEN at the Museum Tinguely Basel and 2018 he will create his new sound installation UNLESS at the Hong Kong Arts Centre.
