Halab

Sol Picó

Monasterio San Miguel de los Reyes

November 6th / 20:00h

Halab is a piece that wants to pay tribute to the more than 16,000 people who died in the Mediterranean, while they were trying to reach the European coasts, fleeing from the misery and the horrors of war in their homeland. 16,000 people, men, women and children who in utter despair have completed a journey full of hardship, violence and abuse under the waters of our sea.

A humanitarian tragedy just a few kilometres from our home, with the complicity of ruthless mafias, who are capable of throwing hundreds of people into the sea in precarious boats and with false waistcoats, and of a Europe that is only concerned with armouring its borders. Only non-governmental organisations, such as Proactiva Open Arms, which has helped create this piece, alleviate this situation with their titanic work, putting first what should always prevail: helping those who need it most.

Performed by 24 student dancers and choreographed by Sol Picó, with live music by Pere Jou, Halab is an austere, shocking, committed and exciting piece that, through the poetic language of dance, brings us closer to a terrible reality suffered by thousands of people in the face of the inaction of an increasingly hard-hearted Europe. May our silence not become their accomplice.
