Illustration and the graphic novel as tools for the visibilization

In this talk, Duran and Giner will travel through several of their works explaining how and why they have used the own resources of the illustration and the graphic novel to give visibility to those who have not. From their beginnings their works have had a marked social component and they have been a vehicle for the activism, trying to make visible the invisible people. From their early stories, slitting autobiographical, until their last work, journalist style, they have done works related to the functional diversity, the adoption, cooperation, the prevention of gender violence or the social denunciation.

Cristina Durán (Valencia, 1970) and Miguel A. Giner Bu (Benetúser, 1969) are graduated by the Fine Arts School of Valencia in the drawing especiality, and this school they started their work in comics with the fanzine No aparcar llamo GRUA. In 1993 they opened their own studio, LaGRUAestudio, where since then they work professionally in the comic and illustration
