método negro (black method) finds its place in the field of the art of movement, specifically between performance, installation, contemporary action, dance and research processes. A choreographic encounter with “the other”, a confrontation between reality and its double. An action that seeks to decline the absence: “The unseen half, like the void to which radiance returns”. When dancing it, the presence of form does not unfold. Movement occurs through the disappearance of form. Absence is declined. An imperceptible transformation.
Método negro is in a continuous creative process, based on the call of temporary work groups. The aim is to place in the bodies the contents of the textures of movement of the ‘black method’. By developing a research drift in community, in an extended or libertarian body. It is about allowing inference and critique, enriching the choreography in the co-emergence of the phenomenon, and sharing knowledge. An open-source practice.
Javier Martín is a choreographer and researcher. He develops an epistemological and critical research project on the art of movement. From the field of choreographic and performative creation, he extends his practice in different discursive lines and their applications, such as: writing, performative conferences, creative processes with laboratories and work groups, creation and development of research groups, assistance on study plans in different universities, or the planning of seminars and creation tools.
His career shows a clear commitment to the search for new languages and textures of movement. He has created more than 30 works, such as método negro (2018), la exforma (2017), symptoma, with Oleg Karavaichuk (2016), control (2015), oximórica (2015), etc. These works have been presented in Spain, France, Russia, Ukraine, Portugal, Mexico, Guatemala and Uruguay. In 2017 the MUN (Museo Universidad Navarra) published Javier Martín. Cuaderno de creación (Javier Martín. Creation notebook), the first monographic catalogue about his artistic work.
