Choreographic Competition 10 Sentidos

CaixaForum València

May 7th | 12:00h to 14:00h – 15:30h to 18:30h

The Certamen Coreográfico 10 Sentidos is presented again in the 2024 edition and has established itself as a benchmark in Europe that promotes choreographic pieces by emerging creators at a national, European and international level. It establishes itself as a launcher for new talents in the arts of movement and as a thermometer of current choreographic creation at an international level.

Compagnia Bellanda | Simposio | Italy
Length: 13′
From Plato’s story to the present day, a continuous tension in search of the total, unique, complete body. From the “hermaphrodites” narrated in Aristophanes’ speech, supernatural figures, in strength and shape, to the divided body that we have. The attempt at reunion, the tension towards completeness, the relationship never completely “satisfied” because it is now impossible to go back to being a “single body”. A perennial desire for reunion, a desire that animates and moves bodies. From Plato’s specific story to the analysis of current society and the dynamics of the relationships it contains: the difficulty of finding, maintaining and cultivating a relationship as a couple in a society that pushes towards ever stronger individualism and which leads to less acceptance of the couple’s “compromise”. From here our moving figures are born where the two bodies, added together, create a larger one.

Evelyn Tejeda | 0’4mm | Dominican Republic
Length: 12′
Visually, the exhaustion of a resource as daily and simple as a blouse is the analogy of the epidermis itself and the infinite search and questioning of the self, what I am for, the inexhaustible dissatisfaction and discomfort of one’s own being and what is hidden under the skin.
Knotted entanglements originated by the existential vacuum of the mind and its games of power and manipulation over self.
Investigating the object as it is my own skin, exploring how my epidermis can expand, its elasticity, going within and asking questions> am I comfortable with it, comfortable with who I am? Do I really know who I am or what do I want?
I go under my skin and this conversation starts to get difficult and uncomfortable getting tangled up in myself. Have you ever forgotten how to listen and follow your heart?

La Mamma Company | Dream a Little Dream of We | France
Length: 10′
Forces that interlock, disengage, cross and uncross, interweave and unravel. In search of ourselves, of others, and of what brings us together. Looking for common ground. Does sharing the same space-time mean sharing the same reality?
The piece is based on a contemporary style, with natural floorwork influences and a sense of theatricality. The choreographer’s aim is to create a dance with a universal identity. Through a game of body inversion and counterbalance, a kind of tetris in which we seek to achieve perfect balance, while allowing a more animal corporeality to exist. Dream a little dream of We is a reflection on our relationship with others, on the fragility of what we believe to be a shared reality.

Maya Takeda | Lines | Japan
Length: 15′
My research for the solo piece “LINES” began with a cat’s cradle which consists of making a pattern with one long piece of thread as well as referencing the book “LINES” written by Tim Ingold. I started my creation on how I could use my entire body to form the shapes of a cat’s cradle and draw inspiration from the book which has a chapter about thread and trace with objects to make my work. Based on these thoughts, I explored how I can apply my work using objects with “LINES” and my experience of what I perceived, witnessed and embodied from my own body and sensation throughout the creation process and my life.

Irene de la Rosa y Rosa Sanz | Entonces, ¿quién entiende esto? | Spain
Length: 15′
This work studies the avant-garde in flamenco, examining its future evolution from a gender perspective. Through the encounter of two female flamenco dancers on stage, a dialogue is held about authenticity and purity in their art. Inspired by J. L. Ortiz Nuevo’s reflections on purity as synonymous with authenticity, our proposal seeks to distill the essence of flamenco, freeing it from external ambitions and highlighting its intrinsic value. Lined with ‘PorLaCultura’, the piece celebrates diversity and promotes cultural dialogue, highlighting the role of art in driving social change and preserving traditions in a global context.

Matteo Sacco | A Little Grief | Italy
Length: 15′
“Sometimes, throughout life, we realise that some things we should have been, we were not able to become. At that moment we realise that a piece of us is dead and we have to let it go. That’s when we feel the little grief”.
Three performers find themselves collapsed on the ground, like corpses in different points of space and slowly, at the beginning of the sound score, they begin to move. The little grief is a regret. It is the detachment from an ideal of a self that never occurred. Throughout life we make choices that, consciously or unconsciously, lead us to be the people we are. But there are moments when, looking inside ourselves, we realise that other versions of us live, somewhere, in our imagination.

A ras de suelo | Lo que tú quieras | Spain
Length: 15′
It may be what you want. It may be what the other or a third party wants. It may be what your imagination offers you. It may take another path or it may not turn out as you expected. The power of decision and the courage to accept that power. The acceptance of one’s own decisions and those made by others. What if we approached all this through play? With the innocence and instinct that characterise a child. Let’s take deciding as an opportunity to play.
iXa | Ollos cara adentro | Spain
Length: 15′
“The spirit of the man who dreams is fully satisfied with what he dreams. The arrogant unknown of possibility ceases to be formulated. Kill, fly faster, love when you want” (André Breton, 1924). Taking the universe of the oneiric as a starting point, Ollos cara adentro aims to investigate the surrealist conception of the dream; that place where the limits of logic, reason, conscience and even the conventions of taste are broken, allowing a door to open between the inner and outer world of each individual.

Una constante | Clarity | Argentina
Length: 13′

Mar Garcia y Javi Soler | Miccionario | Spain
