Bailar el cuerpo extraño (II)

José Ramón Hernández y Osikán

Diario de un laboratorio de imaginación is a creative space for Afro, migrant, trans and/or racialized people from the global south, which explores with tools from theater, dance and the living arts in their personal and collective memories, their life stories, rites, myths, sounds, flavors, knowledge and desired futures.

In the laboratory, collective healing, listening and spirituality exercises will be developed. The installation of an altar will be created and a collective scenic ceremony will be activated to honor the ancestors, the sisters and brothers, the dead who have been left behind in the crossings, murdered by migration policies and borders.

José Ramón Hernández (Palma Soriano 1988).

José Ramón Hernández is an interdisciplinary Afro-Cuban artist graduated from the Instituto Superior de Arte de Cuba. Founder and artistic director of Osikán – nursery of creation. His practice moves between artistic direction, dramaturgy, choreography, live arts curatorship, installation, performance, education, mediation and cultural management.

Her creative research focuses on Afro-descendant rituals, the performativity of peripheral bodies, matters, spiritualities, memories, migrations, cartographies and desires. She tests the limits between fiction and reality, the work with non-fictional documents and the tools of the sensitive to affect and intervene social processes and communities.

Osikán is a nursery of creation, research, imagination and social action where artists, specialists, activists and communities coexist. A nursery of encounters and participation that imagines strategies of the sensitive to promote critical dialogues, repairing social wounds in our contexts of life and work today. We activate creation with the desire to put our hands on the ground. The germination of collective learning, curatorial projects, alliances, critical thinking, wanderings and delusions. The origin and the most visible trajectory of Osikán is located in Cuba, in a context of artists working critically in the margins and peripheries of state cultural institutions. Today, between Madrid, Havana and Montreal, Osikán – nursery of creation expands to a web of alliances with the Afro, Caribbean, indigenous and global south diasporas in the world, in connection with other racialized communities, trans, migrants, alternative networks of creation, critical, black and radical thought.
